Historic French castle engulfed in flames, destroying part of 600-year-old building

Firefighters are at work to extinguish a fire that broke out in La Rochelle city hall, on June 28, 2013 in La Rochelle, western France. The fire swept through the roof of the town hall destroying a part of the listed 15th-Century building.

A fire broke out La Rochelle’s City Hall around midday on Friday, destroying the roofing of the 600-year-old building. All employees were evacuated from the structure and no one was injured. According to France Info, the fire began in the wedding hall, though the source of the fire is still unknown.
