A file photograph dated 06 August 2003 shows a LURD (Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy) rebel observing a ceasefire shortly before the departure of then president Charles Taylor during the civil war in Monrovia, Liberia. Former Liberian president Charles Taylor is to go on trial in the Hague, 04 June 2007 for his involvement in the brutal civil wars of Sierra Leone and Liberia.

The spray of bullets here is a force of erosion, like wind or water.

Raindrops fall on a table of a beer garden during heavy rain in downtown Dusseldorf, western Germany, on Thursday, June 21, 2007.

This is not necessarily the best photo I have ever seen but it reminds me of one of the things that I love about photography. Photography has the ability to freeze a split second in time, often allowing us to see things that the naked eye wouldnt normally catch.

A lady in a hat shaped like an ashtray poses for a photograph on Ladies Day on day three of Royal Ascot on June 21, 2007 in London, England.

I can't tell you how many times I have woken up and said, "Hummm......what shall I wear today. Oh I know, I will wear my ashtray hat."

Visitors watch as water gushes out of the Xiaolangdi Reservoir on the Yellow River on the first day of the annual silt-washing operation, near Luoyang, in central China's Henan province Tuesday June 19, 2007. The annual operation, aimed at washing away silt deposits in the riverbed, has been shortened to 12 days from 20 days because of a drought in northern China.

Sometimes the best color photographs are those that are mostly monochromatic. The tiny umbrellas at the bottom of the frame make this picture. Less is more.

The world's biggest sheep, the Big Merino, in the town of Goulburn, Australia. The 96 tonne, 15 metre tall, 4 metre wide, 18 metre long, cement and steel giant, nicknamed Rambo, was transported 800 metres (half a mile) to a new location. The four storey tall Rambo was a monumentally successful tourist attraction from its opening in 1985, until 1992 when a new freeway bypassed the town and tourists overlooked poor old Rambo. Now, three local businessmen, Robert Rampton, Stephen Jones and Frazer Roberts have purchased the enormous ram and are moving the giant to a more prestigious location in a petrol station closer to the freeway.

The concept of roadside attractions, turned on its ear. Instead of folks traveling to see Rambo, it came to them for one unique day.

A Taoist priest uses a mobile phone during a ritual one day before the Bun Festival at Cheung Chau island in Hong Kong May 23, 2007. As one of East Asia's religious spectacles, the traditional event celebrates the islanders' deliverance from famine centuries ago and is believed to placate ghosts and restless spirits.

I like the juxtaposition of traditional and modern in this frame. The right side of the image seems hundreds of years distant from the left side.

A new outbreak of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu has been detected among poultry in a village on the outskirts of the Malaysian capital, a health official said 06 June. U.S. President George W. Bush smiles as he is presented with a swimsuit during an event honoring NCAA championship teams at the White House in Washington June 18, 2007. (Kevin Lamarque / Reuters)

President Bush's photo ops are so tightly controlled that it's rare when a photographer catches him looking "non-presidential". It's nice to see this side of him captured once in a while.

This looks strangely relaxing. It reminds me of the bee sting treatment picture you can find if you go way, way deeper into Photoblog.

My back hurts just looking at this picture! It is hard to believe the human body is that flexible.

Italian rider Marco Pinotti is kissed on the podium after the seventh stage of the Giro d'Italia cycling race, 158 miles from Spoleto to Scarperia, May 19, 2007. Italian rider Alessandro Petacchi won the stage while Pinotti took the leader's pink jersey.

If I had known that I could get this kind of lovin' for just riding a bicycle, I might have thought twice before I pursued photography as a career.

Jordan Holthaus from Kansas State passes by capsized Andrew Hurley from the U.S. Naval Academy following a sprint race during Solar Splash 2007, Friday, June 15 at Lake Fayetteville in Fayetteville, Ark. The intercollegiate competition is the World Championship of Solar/Electric boating.

Sometimes its just not worth getting up in the morning. Its bad enough to sink the boat, but to have the lettering be the only part of the boat sticking out of the water. Now, thats a tough break. My heart goes out to Andrew.

A visitor takes a look at an art work by Hiroshi Sugimoto of Diana, Princess of Wales on display at Sotheby's auction rooms in London, June 13, 2007.

This photo immediately caught my eye because I thought it was a photo of Diana when she was alive, but it's just a photo of her hanging on a wall. Interesting.

A prostitute from El Salvador who identifies herself as Vilma poses for a portrait as she waits for clients in her rented room on a street called in Spanish "La Linea," or "The Strip," where dozens of women work as prostitutes in Guatemala City, Monday, April 23.

I connected instantly when I saw this image from a series of Meneghinis work from El Salvador. Out of his series of prostitutes, Vilma is the only woman who has images of Christ hanging above her bed. I wonder what her clients think when they enter her room. The light, feeling, environment and subtle moment are extremely telling of Vilmas life.

Pilgrims wave giant hands to Pope Benedict XVI during his weekly general audience in Saint Peter's Square at the Vatican, 13 June 2007.

Now I don't want to put words in Mr. Monteforte's mouth... or thoughts in his head, but if it were me shooting at the Vatican yesterday and I saw that lone pair of bare arms go up amidst foam hands I would have laid on the shutter and smiled inside. They make the picture. Nice job seeing it Filippo.

Workers and tourists walk on the grounds of the National Grand Theater on June 12, 2007 in Beijing, China. Construction of the theater, also called Eggshell, will be completed by September, with the first performance scheduled for October 1, the National Day.

At first glance, this looks like a giant spaceship from a Hollywood movie. It's actually a new theater under construction in China called the Eggshell. The reflection and the tiny figures add to this stunning image.

Italian Mattia Pasini reacts after crashing during the 125cc race at the Grand Prix of Catalunya, June 10, 2007 in Montmelo.

Feel like doing this to your computer sometimes? I guess it's probably better that this motorcycle racer takes his frustrations out on his bike rather than on his mechanic or his dog.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (L) of Mexico celebrates with his father, famed boxer Julio Cesar Chavez (R) after winning his bout against Grover Wiley during their Welterweight bout on 09 June 2007 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In 2003, Madonna kissed Britney and set the entertainment world on its ear. Pro athletes hug and pat each other on the butt, but same sex kissing is . . . outside the comfort zone. Has the American sports establishment promoted a myth that only heterosexual people play sports? If a macho boxer like Julio Cesar Chavez can kiss his son, what's next?

An Albanian boy kisses a picture of US President George W. Bush, in a exhibit which is open at Tirana's International Culture Centre, a former museum of late communist dictator Enver Hoxha, in Tirana 31 May, 2007. Bush visited Tirana on June 10 as part of a regional tour.

Ripped from the headlines: "Bush approval back at low point" - "Bush is greeted warmly in Albania." I guess the President needs to cultivate friends wherever he can find them.

Waves hit the coal tanker Pasha Bulker as it sits off Nobbys Beach June 8, 2007 in Newcastle, Australia. The 225-metre long coal ship with 21 crew on board and carrying some 700 tonnes of heavy fuel and 34 tonnes of diesel on board, broke its moorings and ran aground 50 metres off the beach earlier in the day.

Great juxtaposition. Dramatic light. Dramatic event. Nice.

A model in a LED dress walks at its demonstration in Tokyo June 7, 2007. The dress, with light-emitting diode devices installed inside, was designed by Swarovski and Hussein Chalayan and will be available in Japanese market from fall and winter season in this year. This picture is taken in slow shutter.

OK, so if we take this idea a few steps further, how far are we from seeing people - regular, average citizens - sell advertising space on across their chests? Or other body parts?

A woman pushes a button to choose a room at a love hotel in Tokyo June 7, 2007. An industry known for its privacy is flirting with the public, as Japanese love hotel funds look to entice retail investors with attractive returns.

I can't help but think of the machine's response, in Japanese of course, "would you like fries with that?"

An Afghan girl skips in front of a wall with drawings made by children in a destroyed building in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Friday, June 1, 2007.

Im struck by the innocent joy and simplicity I see in this photograph. No video games to entertain the children here, though more than enough violence and destruction I think.

A professional scuba instructor submerges during a practice dip in a pool beneath the city's most famous monument, the Eiffel Tower, in Paris, Friday, June 1, 2007. As of Friday, would-be divers can take the plunge in the landlocked French capital, with a practice dip in a pool beneath the Eiffel Tower.

Any doubt about global warming? Just kidding, but one of the joys of scrolling the daily wirephotos is finding funny gems like this one.

Legendary game show host Bob Barker, 83, gets emotional as he takes questions from the media after taping his final episode of "The Price Is Right" in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 6, 2007.

When I saw this picture the other day, I began to feel very nostalgic. I remember as a little kid staying home from school sick and watching the Price is Right with good ol' Bob Barker. Because lets face it, daytime television is not very good for kids unless they enjoy Days of our Lives. I am sad to see Bob Barker say goodbye, but he did have a pretty good run at it. According to wikipedia the Price is Right is the second longest running game show on television. We will miss you Bob, your giant money wheel where everyone wants the dollar, Plinko, your beauties, and all the good memories that come with you. So remember folks, always have your pets spayed or neutered.
