Voodoo believers covered in mud bathe in a sacred mud pool in Plaine du Nord, some 124 miles north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Tuesday, July 24, during a Voodoo pilgrimage to pay homage to Ogou, the Voodoo god of war. Voodoo, which was brought to the island by slaves from West Africa, is a mix of African religions and Roman Catholicism.

I feel very lucky as an intern at msnbc.com because I get to see amazing images from around the world. Different religions are very fascinating to me.

A student attends a religious ceremony at a mosque at a university in Tehran July 29. Shiite Muslims believe that God will forgive their sins if they pray and fast in mosques for three days while being away from their families.

Nice quiet moment. Beautiful light; beautiful colors.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani gestures as he delivers remarks at a gathering of supporters at La Carreta Restaurant during a stump speech June 21, 2007 in Hialeah, Florida. Giuliani is running for the Republican nomination for the President of the United States.

Photographers in competitive news situations tend to all shoot the same pictures so they won't get second guessed by their editors. Joe Raedle had the initiative to work this low angle until he got something totally different. The candidate's hands are even more expressive than his face.

A silhouette is mirrored in waste machinery oil that will be washed into the river Ganga in Calcutta, West Bengal, India on July 23, 2007.

This photo showing pollution, the soon to be contamination of a river, is so enthralling and somehow beautiful. The colors, the swirls in the oil, the boy's reflection, are all really interesting to look at.

Ryosuke Shinohara reacts as a seal swims in a pillar-shaped tank during a press preview of Fureai Lagoon, where visitors can interact with living marine creatures, at Hakkejima Sea Paradise in Yokohama in south of Tokyo July 24, 2007. The new attraction opens to the public on July 27.

There is something intriguing about the body language of this seal and the way he seems to be relating to the kid. These vertical tanks are a gold mine for pictures. Hmmm . . . I wonder who is really on display?

An Indian worker prepares clay to make idols, alongside unfinished models representing Hindu Goddess Durga, at a workshop in Kumartoli, a village of idol artists in Kolkata, 22 July 2007.

Do artists leave pieces of themselves in their artwork? Dasain is coming up in India and Nepal. It's a very fantastic festival that celebrates religion, family and tradition. Can't wait to see the images that come through the wires.

A professional thread maker prepares threads for flying kites in Jammu, India, Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Kites gain popularity with the arrival of India's Independence Day, celebrated on Aug. 15.

This photo immediately caught my eye. I thought the threads were beams of light. Nice photo! I will look forward to seeing the photos from India's Independence day, they should be colorful.

Peruvian riot policemen stand on guard at the International Labour Organization's (ILO) headquarters in Lima, 10 July 2007. Perus Government decided to mobilize their armed forces in an attempt to contain an avalanche of regional strikes and standstills.

Do you think he was last in line when they handed out shields, or is the transparency perhaps an advantage?

A dutch family waits on the side of the road for the riders the 14th stage of the 94th Tour de France cycling race between Mazamet and Plateau de Beille, 22 July 2007.

For the most part I really enjoy the way the photographer framed this image. Part of me wonders if this was a conscious decision he made or a pure accident. Either way I enjoy the fact that he made an attempt to frame this picture so nicely. My only wish would be for him to have brought the camera up a bit higher, so that it eliminates all that wasted space that just shows the road. This way my eyes would have immediately been brought into the family and not distracted so much by the road in the foreground.

Firemen look on as machinery is used to clear rubble from the site of a collapsed building at Borivali, Mumbai, India on July 19. At least 22 people were killed and nine others wounded when the building collapsed. At least 10 others were feared trapped in the rubble.

Great use of light by in this picture by Gautam Singh

A laborer works on a new bridge at Chongming Island in Shanghai July 19, 2007.

This photo caught my eye beacuse it takes a little while to figure out what's going on in it and and it took me a few seconds to find the worker. I love the clouds and horizon.

A boy plays in the waves of the Arabian sea at a beach in Mumbai on July 17, 2007.

I love the water texture on the left and the way that the boy just pops out of the frame. Very cool shot.

Afghan drug additcts are seen through a window mural at the Nejat Centre in Kabul, 13 July 2007. The NEJAT Centre is an Afghan response to vulnerable Afghan people, working with the communities for the prevention, treatment and care of drug users and HIV/Aids patients.

A startling, well-crafted image. While the center seems to be a place of hope, working for prevention, treatment and care, this photograph sure grabs me and leaves a gloomy impression.

Remote cameras line the red carpet in the White House while US President George Bush speaks to the press regarding the Middle East in Washington, D.C., July 16, 2007.

There is something kind of funny and surreal about this scene. Like little transformers, these remote cameras seem like they are trying to sneak closer to the President. I wonder if he had to use a remote camera to get this picture.

A passenger smokes a cigarette as he vainly awaits the train to start during a warning strike at the main train station in Frankfurt, July 3, 2007. German rail workers extended strikes over pay on Tuesday, causing what operator Deutsche Bahn said were "massive" disruptions for early morning commuters in big cities including Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich.

This photo immediately caught my attention, I love the way the light and shadows work in this image. The photographer did a great job getting the best exposure to make this photo really striking.

Preston Wilson (C) celebrates with "Freight Train" (L) and "Elbow" (R) 07 July 2007, after winning the Bobbin' for Pig's Feet competition at the 2007 Redneck Games in East Dublin, Georgia. The day-long yearly festival celebrates the southern "redneck" way of life.

I look forward to seeing photos from the Redneck Games every year. This photographer really captured the winning moment in the Bobbin' for Pig's Feet competition. It made me laugh out loud, I just wish the pigs foot was still in his mouth.

LONDON - JULY 08: Yellow jersey Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara leads the pack in the pre start of the Tour De France, on the the Mall on July 8 2007, in London, England. It is the first time the Tour De France has started in London.

I love the way the shadows make such crisp patterns in this type of overhead shot.

A man displays his tattooed face at a tattoo convention in Beijing Saturday June 16, 2007. Hundreds attended the opening of the three-day China 2007 Tattoo Show in Beijing Saturday. The show, the third to be held in the Chinese capital, features tattoo competitions, stage performances and on-the-scene tattoos.

This is commitment. I wonder if this guy ever regrets his decision to permanently mark his body like this. What makes someone get a tattoo, any tattoo, in the first place?

The Statue of Liberty is seen at sunset in New York, Tuesday, July 3, 2007. The United States will be celebrating its 231st Independence Day tomorrow.

I've seen a lot of dramatic pictures of the Statue of Liberty, but this is something I haven't seen before. I would guess it was shot from a helicopter by the angle. Seems like just the right thing to post on the Fourth of July.

A secret service agent watches President George W. Bush deliver remarks about the Iraq war at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. on June 28.

Jason Reed saw something interesting. It is something Ive discussed in PhotoBlog before. As a photojournalist it is valuable to be tuned in to visuals that represent ideas. Its one of the things that allow photojournalism to be interesting beyond the simple recording of events. It could be argued that Jasons picture is a picture of the times we live in secret men, half-hidden behind icons we trust. It is a little scary.

Reese Hoffa poses with a turkey leg after winning the shot put finals at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis June 23, 2007.

Something about this image disturbs me and makes me laugh all at the same time. I don't even know if there are appropriate words for a photo of a large man looking naughty with a turkey leg.

Indian police cane government teachers during a protest in front of the India's central state Madhya Pradesh Chief minister's house in Bhopal, India, 26 June 2007. Hundreds of teachers are protesting to demand regularisation of their jobs and increase in their salary.

Our bloggers certainly have strong opinions about teachers and education in the United States. This shocking picture from India reminds me of the black and white images of the civil rights movement in the fifties and sixties. There is a wealth of detail in this picture: the pose of the policemen, the anticipation of the victim, the men fleeing in the background and even the random shoes in the foreground.
