A child carries water in a makeshift displaced persons camp outside the MONUC base in the village of Kiwanja, 90 kms north of Goma, eastern Congo, Friday, Nov. 7, 2008. Fighting resumed between rebels and Congolese forces on the outskirts of Goma.

This picture shows in stark detail the burden placed on refugees in Congo as violence continues in their country. The AP reports that since fighting intensified in August, around 250,000 people have been displaced.

Cheyenne resident Linda Reid tries to walk out the front door of her home Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 in northern Cheyenne, Wy. The high winds from Wednesday night and Thursday morning blocked the entrance with hundreds of tumbleweeds. Reid said she walked out of her home at 8:30 a.m. to get the newspaper and was surprised by 5 foot plus high pile of tumbleweeds.

I was searching for Great Plains blizzard photos when I came across this shot. This wasn't the kind of blizzard I expected to find and I imagine the lady in the photo feels the same way.

Kerby Brown rides a huge wave in an undisclosed location southwest of Western Australia July 6, 2008, in this picture released November 7, 2008 by the Oakley-Surfing Life Big Wave Awards in Sydney.

This should be titled, 'No escape'. Moments after it was taken, he suffered a massive wipeout leaving him with torn shoulder muscles. "It felt like I ripped my arm out of its socket, my leggie snapped and then I felt like I was the deepest I'd ever been", said Kerby. Remember folks, always wear your Water Wings.

Sen. John McCain greets supporters during his last campaign rally November 4, 2008 in Grand Junction.

After looking at thousands of pictures every day for months of campaigning, I've found that all the pictures seems to look the same - especially the hand shaking photos. This didn't quite make it into The Week in Pictures, but it certainly stands out from the rest of the campaign photos. The repetition and layering in the arms of the supporters, McCain and his wife behind him, as well as the staffer's arm reaching in from the left grabbing his jacket make it especially nice.

Jim Gallagher of Danville, Pa., paddles his kayak across the calm surface of Lake Chillisquaque, White Hall, Pa., while heading back to shore following sundown Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008.

Wonderful capture at the perfect time. I love the reflected clouds in the foreground, reminds me of mist coming off the lake.

Stumbling across this shot was a welcome break from political coverage

Teresa Sheldon votes with her son Dustin Sheldon at Cherry Creek Town Hall in Cherry Creek, N.Y. on Tuesday.

This seem like a good way for a mother and son to spend a few minutes together. How many of you took your kids into the voting booth today?

Voters enter the May Township Hall moments after it opened near Stillwater, Minn., Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008.

This photo caught my eye because it reminded me of how geographically diverse our country is. People have been lining up to vote today all over the U.S., not just in large city's but in small towns as well.

In this image released by the U.S. Parachute Association, parachutists Scott Smith, dressed as Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, left, and Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld, dressed as Republican presidential candidate John McCain jump from a plane over Perris Valley, Calif., on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008.

I have seen so many images of the candidates today, but this may be the only one that made me laugh instead of stress!

Cars line up to place ballots in a Multnomah County official drop box in a McDonald's parking lot in Portland, Ore., Monday, Nov. 3, 2008.

This image caught my eye as being a quintessentially American scene.

People take photos near the Washington Monument Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 in Washington.

This area of Washington, D.C., is very magical, and it must feel particularly electric to be there since the presidential election is in a matter of days.

Valerie, a 26-year-old female African elephant picks Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. picture over Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif., Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008. The elephant is the symbol of the Republican party.

Well, now that the mascot of the Republican party has apparently switched teams, what would you choose to take its place?

Electric Time Co. employee Walter Rodriguez cleans the face of an 84-inch Wegman clock at the plant in Medfield, Mass. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008. Daylight savings time ends early Sunday morning with clocks turned back one hour.

Here's a little visual reminder for everyone to set his or her clock back one hour tonight. I don't know about you, but I'm excited about that extra hour of sleep!
