A visitor walks through an art installation 'The Labyrinth', a maze of 2100 meters of cardboard created by Michelangelo Pistolleto of Italy at Galleria Continua in the 798 Dashanzi art district in Beijing, China, February 26, 2008.

This photo made me think of the proverb, "One man's garbage is another man's gold."

British actress Tilda Swinton arrives at the 80th annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Ca., on Feb. 24, 2008. Swinton won Best Supporting Actress for her appearance in "Michael Clayton."

I rate this dress, the one-armed velvet sack, the worst dress of the Oscars. What do you think? Rate the dresses and see what other readers think here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23257732/

Roberta Allen, from San Jose, Calif., wears American flag contact lenses at a rally supporting troops outside of Berkeley City Hall in Berkeley, Calif, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008.

I am all for patriotism and supporting the country but I have to draw that line somewhere, and I'm sorry American flag contact lenses cross that line for me. Doesn't this give kids nightmares? I know if I saw this woman in the street, I would run the other direction.

Cuba's acting President Raul Castro flashes the victory sign during a session of Cuba's National Assembly in Havana, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, days after Cuba's President, 81-year-old Fidel Castro, announced he would not accept a nomination for a new presidential term.

Any doubt who Raul Castro is channeling?

Ge Fengcai rides his bicycle on the backrest of a park bench in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province February 23, 2008. Ge, a local mail carrier, has been performing stunts on a bicycle for 20 years, local media reported.

I didn't know that was even possible! Cool photo.

Thai Buddhist people gather with candles, lotus flowers and joss sticks around a giant Buddha statue during Makha Bucha Day celebrations at the Buddhamonthon, Nakhon Pathom province, 56km (35 miles) from Bangkok, Thailand, 21 February 2008. The Candle Light Procession is held to mark Makha Bucha Day, a day in remembrance of an event when the lord Buddha gave a sermon on the essence of Buddhism.

This image didn't make the cut for The Week in Pictures this week because the blur motion didn't sit well with the editors. But technique aside, I find it fun to look at because of the vivid color, the shapes of the waving lines and seeing where the lines stop and start because of the movement of the procession.

A man rides his bike during a sandstorm enveloping a residential neighborhood February 19, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq. Seasonal sandstorms have created a reddish haze over much of Baghdad resulting in poor visibility and the cancellation of many civilian and military flights there.

This reddish haze reminds me of the color of the moon during the recent eclipse (the next photo shows what I'm talking about.)

The moon passes through the shadow of the earth during a total lunar eclipse on Wednesday Feb. 20, 2008. Though the Earth blocks direct sun from reaching the moon, some sunlight filters through the Earth's atmosphere and creates this reddish glow.

It'd be cool to stand on the moon during an eclipse like this with the surrounding moonscape glowing red. I wonder if you'd be able to see the lights from Earth's cities, since the sun would be obscured.

Residents watch U.S. President George Bush's motorcade as it drives to Osu Castle in Accra, February 19, 2008.

We've looked a lot of pictures from Bush's trip to Africa, but we rarely see something away from the official events. This struck me because it's real people watching the motorcade go by.

A Pakistani food vendor makes sweets in a street decorated with party flags for the upcoming elections in Lahore, Pakistan, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008. Fears of violence are running high in the approach to crucial parliamentary elections set for Feb. 18.

We considered this picture for The Week in Pictures, but it didn't make the cut. Yet I still like it, for making me feel like I'm on that street in Lahore, particularly if you make your Photoblog window as big as possible so you can see the nice light and detail in the frame.

President Bush holds a copy of "The Cat in the Hat" during a classroom visit at the Maasai Girls School in Arusha, Tanzania, Monday, Feb. 18, 2008.

I thought this was a really nice photograph of President Bush interacting with Tanzanian students during his visit to Africa. I wonder if that specific book is really used to teach the kids how to read English.

Pakistani election workers count the votes after the polls closed as they dispute some rejected ballots at a polling station outside Peshawar, February 18, 2008 in Pakistan.

There is something comical about the body language of these poll workers. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence that they know what they are doing. The Pakistani election is in fact a very serious matter, so it is encouraging that international media are allowed to observe the process.

Lily models the Nicole Oscar inspired gown, February 18, 2008. Pet fashion label Little Lily has designed a range of dog clothes inspired by the actual gowns worn by A-listers on the Oscar red carpet.

I guess a picture that has an animal, fashion and Oscars is a journalistic perfect storm. So much so, that Reuters sent 17 of these today. Don't they have something more important to cover?

Students gather for a prayer service on the campus of Northern Illinois University to pray for those killed and wounded in yesterday's a shooting at Cole Hall February 15, 2008 in DeKalb, Ill.

A scene that is becoming all too horribly familiar

Philadelphia Phillies pitchers and catchers exercise in the outfield in their first session of baseball spring training in Clearwater, Fla., Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008.

Thought bubble: "Gee, these new baseballs are pretty hard to grip." Enough with the steroid hearings; it's time to play ball!

Young athletes stretch their feet as they warm up before a practice session at a diving training school in Shanghai February 14, 2008. The students from one of Chinas many provincial sports schools, train five days a week, hoping to someday represent China in the Olympics.

I've seen photos of athletes stretching, but not stretching their feet. I liked this photo because its unusual and because of the light and composition. I wonder if anyone in this photo will become one of the Olympic athletes?

Grooms kiss their brides during a mass wedding in Muntinlupa city, south of Manila February 14, 2008. At least 230 couples were married in the mass Valentine's Day ceremony.

Happy Valentine's Day. Nothing quite says love like sharing your special day with 230 other couples during a mass wedding.

Young girls watch their mother cast her ballot in presidential primary elections at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center in Alexandria, Virginia, February 12, 2008.

Its so great to see parents take the time to teach their kids about the democratic process.

A model displays a design by Victorio & Lucchino during the Pasarela Cibeles fashion show in Madrid, on Feb. 11. Spain's top fashion show has turned away three British models because they are too thin.

I noticed this picture because of the light and the lines, but the caption took me to a whole other place and caused me to want to know more. I found that organizers of the fashion show used a mathematical formula to calculate the models' body mass index, and 30 percent of the women did not pass because they are too thin.

Iraqi policemen show their skills during their graduation ceremony at a military base in Baghdad on Feb. 11, 2008. More than policemen graduated as two car bombs rocked the city.

At some point during the planning of this event did someone actually say, "I know, let's have the men lay down and get run over by a motorcycle. That will demonstrate their skills".

Ice coats a street sign in Springfield, Mo., during a round of freezing rain and sleet, Monday, Feb. 11.

I'm SO ready for winter to be over.

US director Martin Scorsese during the 58th Berlinale International Film Festival.

While editing for The Week in Celebrity Sightings this week, we came across several portraits of Martin Scorsese. They were all very well lit, beautiful portraits. But it was something about this simple black and white image that struck me. Sometimes simplicity can make for some very powerful images.

Men wait for their dogs to use an area in the basement of the Hotel Pennsylvania filled with wood chips and fire hydrants in New York February 9, 2008, at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Many great photographers, like Elliot Erwitt, have made the relationship between man and his best friend a major theme of their work. I have to wonder why they need plastic hydrants; wouldn't some nice potted trees been a "greener" solution? Check out all the Westminster action at: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23112148/

A woman walks in a heavy fog along Primorsky Boulevard in Odessa February 5, 2008.

This image struck me when I came across it last week as so dreamy, the fog actually seems warm and inviting. It was included in The Week in Pictures this week, and we've received a lot of feedback mail from people who enjoy the image. What do you think it is about this picture that speaks to its viewers? A Pakistani lawyer stands against water canon bursts as he and others try to visit the home of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, under house arrest, in Islamabad, Pakistan on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008.

There is something almost dreamlike about the quality of light in this news shot from Pakistan, but the barbed wire brings you back to the reality about what is happening to the justice system there.
