US President Obama look-a-like Ilham Anas of Indonesia poses for photos during a Greenpeace demonstration in front of the US embassy in Bangkok on Sept. 18, 2009. Greenpeace is calling on President Obama to take a leadership role on the issue of climate chage to personally attend the Copenhagen Climate Summit in December.

I wonder what this guy was doing before Obama was elected President.

A resident stands next to giants shoes on top of a swept away barge along the Marikina river outside Manila on September 29, 2009 symbolising the town as the country's shoe-making capital.

I came across this while editing a slide show on the flooding in the Philippines. The photo was so out of keeping with the rest of the imagery that I was scratching my head trying to make sense of it until I read the caption. Now I'm half-expecting to read of someone floating to safety in a giant slipper.

Two of the world leaders in Pittsburgh for the G20 meeting are women, but their husbands did not join the activities of the other leaders' spouses. What do you think about that?

After a little research, it turns out folks have been growing pears inside a Buddha-shaped plastic molding... Why?

The carcass of a drought-stricken cow rests in a bizarre pose in a parched field in Kitengela, Kenya, 31 miles east of Nairobi on Sat. Sept. 19, 2009. This year's drought has withered crops, killed livestock and driven millions of Kenyans to seek emergency food aid.

I wondered when I saw this if it had been propped up, but who would take the time to bother with a carcass during such difficult times?

A model poses during the Fashion East Menswear Presentation during London Fashion Week on September 23, 2009.

I'm struggling to find words to describe how this picture makes me feel, and the occasion for which a person would wear such an outfit.

The Harbour Bridge is shrouded by a dust storm in Sydney, September 23, 2009. The dust, which blanketed the city, is being blown by strong winds from dry farm land in western and southern parts of NSW and eastern South Australia.

I've seen some pretty spectacular dust storm pictures this year, but who would have thought we would see one from Sydney, Australia? I think of blue skies when I think of Sydney, but this orange glow is pretty spectacular as well.

Lily Margraret Greenway, 8, left, of Cypress, Texas, yawns behind former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura Bush, while listening to former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach addressing local leaders and elementary school children during the announcement of a community service project at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

It's hard to tell who is more bored, former President Bush or the little girl. The Arlington, school district had planned to send several hundred students to the event to hear Bush, but pulled out after critics brought up the fact that students in the district were not allowed to hear President Obama's Sept. 8 speech. Don't we have more important things to worry about?

I'm not sure why this person is playing the drums in the woods, but it must sound pretty cool.

The smoke yields an overall atmosphere of flatness. Even gloom. The overall body language is a bit awkward, giving off an almost 'caught-on-film' feeling. On closer inspection, though, the touch of her hand on his arm focuses the picture on a subtle expression of tenderness in the midst of what is otherwise chaotic.

Children write articles for mock newspapers as they play the roles of journalists during their work experience activities at KidZania on Sept. 15 in Tokyo, Japan. KidZania offer children more than 50 career experiences with parents not allowed to help their children during 30 minutes long activities.

It looks like they have a romantic, old-fashioned view of what its like to be a journalist. By the time these kids enter the workforce, newsrooms like this will be long gone. I really like the photographers' vests hanging in the closet though.

Barry Delainey, center, attends the funeral of his best friend, Private Kevin Elliott, killed recently in Afghanistan. Delainey, a civilian, and Elliott had a pact that when one of them died the other would attend the funeral wearing a dress.

There's an unusual tension created in this picture by the obvious sadness of this young man at the loss of his friend, and the absurdity of the dress he promised to wear at the funeral.

Farmers with 400 tractors dump around 4 million liters of milk into a field in Ciney, Belgium, 16 September 2009, as anger mounted over falling prices. European Union farm ministers recently failed to agree on an aid package for the sector during a meeting in September.

    Spilled milk

A quick internet search says the world produces 500 million tons of milk per year - this represents only a tiny fraction of that, but it's still an awful lot of spilled milk.

Police use water canons to quell street violence following a street festival, called Schanzenfest street festival which started peacefully in Hamburg, northern Germany, early Sunday Sept. 13, 2009. Several hundred people clashed with police forces following the day long street festival in a largely left wing neighbourhood notorious for confrontations with police.

As I was looking through pictures this morning, I ran across this and initially thought it was a movie still. It has a very surreal quality in that it looks as though these men are battling a machine in a classic sci-fi.

Our coverage of the U.S. economy tends to focus on unpaid mortgages and dismal stock reports. In Guatemala, the global recession paired with a poor growing season are causing life and death issues for some of the population.

The World Trade Center Buildings in New York are seen in this pre-911 file photo. Two separate hijacked aircraft flew into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

There are moments when I still cant believe theyre gone. Emotions swell up quickly when I see pictures from 911. Its almost like Im right back in that moment, trying to make sense of what was happening, wondering where this was going to take us, wondering if my family was safe. We can now look back and consider what 911 meant. What has it meant to you?
