Israel launched two air strikes on northern Gaza early Wednesday after Palestinian militants launched a missile at nearby Netivot despite a truce that went into effect on Tuesday, the European Pressphoto Agency reported.

One man was injured when the Grad missile landed in the southern Israeli town Tuesday night, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had cautioned on Tuesday that Israel would respond to any attempts to violate the truce, Reuters reported.

"Our message is that quiet will bring quiet. Anyone who violates it or even tries to violate it, our guns will find him," Netanyahu said in a speech in Jerusalem.

Palestinians carry the body of Islamic Jihad militant Bassam al-Ejla during his funeral in Gaza City on March 13, 2012.

Reuters reports from Gaza — An Egyptian-brokered truce between Israel and militant groups in the Gaza Strip began to take hold on Tuesday after four days of violence in which 25 Palestinians were killed and 200 rockets were fired at Israel.

The number of Palestinian rocket attacks dropped steeply after the ceasefire went into effect overnight. The Israeli military said three rockets had hit, causing no casualties, and that there had been no Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip.

Previous ceasefire deals after earlier rounds of fighting have often got off to a slow start, with guns falling silent within a day or two. Read more.

'Militant' is not a strong enough word. We should be calling them what they are - terrorists.

Msnbc.com news services report — Israeli air strikes killed two Palestinian militants and a civilian in the Gaza Strip on Monday in a fourth day of cross-border hostilities, medical sources said.

An Islamic Jihad gunman was killed while launching a rocket from south Gaza, the group said. Another died and three others were hurt when their motorized rickshaw was hit.

Hamas and hospital officials said a 15-year-old schoolboy was killed in a separate air strike on Monday. The teenager, Nayef Qarmut, was killed while walking to school past an open area, emergency services spokesperson Adham Abu Selmiya told Agence France Presse. At least 28 other Palestinian civilians were wounded in the various incidents.

Palestinian attacks have disrupted normal life in southern Israel, forcing many schools to close on Sunday and Monday. Israeli aircraft have flown over Gaza since Friday, killing at least 21 people, including two civilians. Read the full story.

Women mourn for victims of a Turkish air raid, at the cemetery of Gulyazi Village, Sirnak province, near the Iraqi border, on Dec. 30. Thousands of Kurds buried 35 civilians killed in a Turkish air raid and branded Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan a murderer.

     AP reports:

Thousands of mourners gathered in southeast Turkey on Friday for the funerals of 35 Kurdish civilians who were killed in a botched raid by Turkish military jets that mistook the group for Kurdish rebels based in Iraq.

Turkish television footage showed people, many weeping and lamenting the dead, as they gathered after the air strikes Wednesday that killed a group of smugglers along the border, one of the deadliest episodes in the conflict between the Turkish state and Kurdish rebels who took up arms in 1984.
