    Reuters reports:

Clean-up work is under way at four industrial estates in Thailand's Ayutthaya province as water has receded after devastating floods last month, and some factories are already back at work, officials said on Monday. Honda Motor Co, the hardest hit of the Japanese car firms, said it would take longer for its production to be up and running again.

Thais wade through the waters on a downtown street as flooding causes havoc Oct. 9, 2011 in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Around 200 factories closed in the central Thai province of Ayutthaya because of flooding, which is posing a threat to Bangkok as well. Over 260 people have died in flood-related incidents since late July. Some areas of the country are experiencing the worst flooding in 50 years, mainly in the center, north and northeast.

Thai floods close factories, threaten Bangkok

    Reuters reports:

Nearly 200 factories, including one run by Japanese car maker Honda Motor Co Ltd, closed in the central Thai province of Ayutthaya because of flooding, which could threaten Bangkok this week, officials said on Sunday.

About 261 people have died since late July in flood-related incidents, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said. Some 2.3 million people have been affected in the worst flooding to hit parts of Thailand in 50 years, mainly in the center, north and northeast.

    Flooding in Thailand

I'm often amazed at people's ability to just keep getting things done when times are at their worst.

    From Reuters
AYUTTHAYA, Thailand — The worst floods in decades in Thailand and severe flooding in neighboring Cambodia have killed 20 people, authorities said on Wednesday, as rescue workers braced for more rain and possible flooding in Bangkok.

Rescue teams evacuated stranded villagers by boat in some provinces, including the old Thai capital Ayutthaya where flood waters swelled to about five feet in some districts, cutting off roads and inundating homes, shops and farmlands.

"The water usually comes and goes very quickly but this time, there is so much," said Sabai Maingam, 48, wading through chest-high water in her store.

Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said 12 people had been killed since Oct. 10.

Flooding has hit 17 provinces, swamping tens of thousands of acres of farmland and damaging at least one major northeastern road, said Vibul Sanguanpong, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
