President Barack Obama on Sunday stressed the importance of personal responsibility and “what it means to be a man” in his commencement address at historically-black Morehouse College in Atlanta.

In the midst of a driving rain, Obama told graduates at the all-male private college that they have obligations to “those still left behind” to be role models for the entire African-American community, both personally and professionally.

“My whole life, I’ve tried to be for Michelle and my girls what my father wasn’t for my mother and me,” Obama said, referring to his own dad who left his family when the president was just a baby. “I want to break that cycle where a father’s not at home, where a father’s not helping to raise that son and daughter. I want to be a better father, a better husband, a better man.”

I've never seen a more cocky and arrogant photo of Obama than the one in this article and that's saying a lot.

President Barack Obama made a pilgrimage on Friday to Bethlehem, the traditional birthplace of Jesus.

At the Church of the Nativity, Obama ducked to enter through its small Door of Humility. Manger Square, the plaza in front of the church, was almost deserted except for security personnel.

Earlier, Obama visited Israel's most powerful national symbols, paying homage at the Holocaust memorial and the graves of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism, and Yitzhak Rabin, the prime minister assassinated in 1995 by an extremist Jew over peace moves with the Palestinians.

Wearing a Jewish skullcap, Obama rekindled an eternal flame at the Yad Vashem memorial next to a stone slab above ashes recovered from Nazi extermination camps after World War Two.

"We have a choice to acquiesce to evil or make real our solemn vow - never again," Obama said.

Israel has "no greater friend than the United States," President Barack Obama said Wednesday on his first state trip to the country.

During his visit, Obama is expected to discuss Iran's disputed nuclear program and the crisis in Syria, and will also meet Palestinian officials in the West Bank on Thursday, but little progress on the peace process is expected.

Standing alongside Israel’s President Shimon Peres following a private bilateral meeting, Obama said the two countries' joint efforts were important in securing peace for future generations. Read the full story.

Rosa Parks statue unveiled in US Capitol

Oliver Douliery / Pool via EPA

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, left to right, President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner attend the unveiling of a statue of Rosa Parks at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 27, 2013. Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a city bus in segregated Montgomery, Ala., on Dec. 1, 1955. Parks' act of defiance and the subsequent Montgomery Bus Boycott became important symbols of the modern civil rights movement.

    NBC News reports:

President Obama joined congressional leaders Wednesday on Capitol Hill to unveil a statue of Rosa Parks. Sculptor Eugene Daub told NBC News how he felt creating the likeness of one of the most definitive characters in American history.

More than half a century after she refused to give up her seat on an Alabama city bus, Rosa Parks has an immovable place in the U.S. Capitol — the first black woman to be honored with a statue there.

President Barack Obama and congressional leaders from both parties said at an unveiling Wednesday that the depiction was fitting.

“Rosa Parks’ singular act of disobedience launched a movement,” Obama said. “The tired feet of those who walked the dusty roads of Montgomery helped a nation see that to which it had once been blind.”

House fly has an encounter with President Obama

    Larry Downing / Reuters

A fly lands between the eyes of U.S. President Barack Obama while he speaks in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, Jan. 24, 2013.

    By Mark Felsenthal, Reuters

WASHINGTON -- There was a buzz at the White House on Thursday when President Barack Obama announced the nomination of two top financial regulatory officials.

A large fly interrupted the president as he presented his picks to head the Securities and Exchange Commission and a watchdog for financial consumer products.

Under bright television lights, the fly darted around the president's head as he spoke in the White House's ornate State Dining Room, alighting briefly on the middle of his forehead.

A giant black fly joined in on the festivities as President Obama announced his nominations for head the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

"We need cops on the beat to enforce the law," the president said, speaking about SEC nominee Mary Jo White and Richard Cordray, who he renominated to continue as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Obama broke off to swat at the intruder, which flew away.

"This guy is bothering me here," Obama said, glaring at his staff.

The insect was luckier than a fly that harassed Obama in 2009 while taping a television interview.

"Get out of here," he said, before smacking and killing the fly. "I got the sucker," he said at the time. An animal rights group protested.

57 faces of the 57th inauguration

As people attending the second inauguration of President Barack Obama trained their eyes on the historic event, photojournalist Benjamin Lowy trained his lens on them.

    By Jon Sweeney, NBC News

“There is something about Americans glancing up,” said photojournalist Ben Lowy. “As Americans we’re always looking forward to the future. It doesn't matter if we’re black, white, yellow, or brown, we look the same when we look up.”

This concept is what attracted Lowy, represented by Getty Images Reportage, to the National Mall in Washington D.C. on a chilly morning in January. His personal mission was to capture as many individual faces “watching history go by” at the second inauguration of Barack Obama. It’s indirectly a continuation of a project he started while covering the political conventions in 2012, he said.

Lowy said when he looked closely at the faces of the convention attendees, “ I couldn't really tell the Republicans from the Democrats.”

“We’re all taking part in democracy,” he said. “Whether you were a member of the 47 percent who voted for Mitt Romney or you voted for Obama in 2012, we’re Americans no matter what.”

In total Lowy captured more than 2,000 portraits on Monday, and we present 57 of his photographs in the slideshow linked above to commemorate the 57th Inauguration.

President Barack Obama takes the oath of office using a Bible that belonged to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in front of First Lady Michelle Obama during the 57th Presidential Inauguration ceremonial swearing-in.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden took their respective oaths of office upon Bibles unique to each man.

Obama honored slain civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr. by using one of Dr. King’s Bibles along with the Bible used by President Lincoln in his first Inauguration on March 4, 1861.

Biden was sworn in using his family Bible, which is five inches thick and has been in the Biden family since 1893. He has used it every time he was sworn in as a U.S. Senator and when he was sworn in as Vice President in 2009.
