    Albert Pujols joined Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson as the only players to hit three home runs in a World Series game, tying records with five hits and six RBIs that led the Cardinals to a 16-7 rout of the Texas Rangers on Saturday night that gave St. Louis a 2-1 Series lead.

    Rangers rally in 9th, beat Cards in World Series Game 2

    AP reports:

    ST. LOUIS - Down to their last three outs and facing another serious World Series deficit, the Texas Rangers did some rallying of their own.

    Lost at the plate, Josh Hamilton and the Texas hitters suddenly found their strokes. They scraped together two runs in the ninth inning against the vaunted St. Louis Cardinals' bullpen and escaped with a 2-1 win Thursday night that evened the Series at 1-all.

    Cards pound Brewers, earn trip to World Series

    According to AP:

    David Freese hit a three-run homer in the first and manager Tony La Russa turned again to his brilliant bullpen for seven sturdy innings as St. Louis captured its 18th pennant with a 12-6 victory over the bumbling Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday night.

    Albert Pujols and the wild-card Cardinals took out the heavily favored Phillies in the first round, then dispatched the division-rival Brewers on their own turf in Game 6 of the NL championship series.

    Looking for its second title in six seasons, St. Louis opens the World Series at home Wednesday night with ace Chris Carpenter on the mound against the AL champion Texas Rangers.

    Betancourt - who batted .252 in the regular season with 13 homers - then sent a 2-1 pitch from Dotel deep to left, where it flew into the Brewers' bullpen and was fielded on the fly by Milwaukee bullpen catcher Marcus Hanel. Hanel pumped his fist, Betancourt circled the bases and the crowd continued its inning-long eruption.

    Rain gives parched Texas a little relief, delays Game 1 of ALCS

    AP reports:

    Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers were delayed by rain in the opener of a playoff series again — twice.

    Game 1 of the AL championship series between the Tigers and Texas Rangers was stopped by rain for 41 minutes in the top of the fifth inning on Saturday night. Then, 13 minutes after play resumed, umpires halted the game for the second time.

    Detroit scored twice after the resumption to close to 3-2, and the Tigers had the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth when play was halted again.

    'Rally squirrels' delight fans, torment stadium groundskeepers

    The so-called "rally squirrels" have been delighting fans in St. Louis, but stadium officials decided they have to go.  Groundskeepers in Philadelphia today had better luck corralling the critters.
