Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor (10) celebrates with Kansas guard Christian Garrett at the end of an NCAA Final Four semifinal college basketball tournament game against Ohio State Saturday, March 31, in New Orleans, La. Kansas won 64-62.

Kansas rallies past Ohio State, 64-62, to play Kentucky for NCAA title

“Well, it’s kind of a tale of two halves, two games,” said Kansas head coach Bill Self. “The light came on and then we were much more aggressive the second half.

“They missed some shots, we controlled the glass, were able to play through our bigs, get out and run. The biggest thing is we got stops and rebounded.”

Basketball fan-in-chief President Barack Obama is giving British Prime Minister David Cameron a front-row seat to March Madness, taking his European partner to an election swing state for an NCAA tournament basketball game.

Amid cheers, the two leaders entered the University of Dayton Arena on Tuesday for a "First Four" matchup between Mississippi Valley State and Western Kentucky, a gesture of goodwill during Cameron's official visit to the United States and a way for an incumbent president to reach sports fans in an election year.

Vanderbilt takes down Kentucky, FSU beats North Carolina as March Madness nears

    Jonathan Bachman / Reuters

Vanderbilt Commodores forward James Siakam (35) celebrates with his teammates after their team defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 71-64 during the final of the SEC men's NCAA basketball tournament in New Orleans, La., March 11. Vanderbilt has not won the SEC Championship since 1951.

The Commodores took down No. 1 Kentucky 71-64 in the SEC tournament title, denying the ‘Cats a chance to sweep the league’s regular-season and tourney titles, not to mention taking some of the sheen off the nation’s most dominant team. Kentucky entered the game with 24 consecutive wins.

No. 17 Florida State used a sharp-shooting performance from three-point range and 18 points from all-conference guard Michael Snaer to beat the No. 4 Tar Heels, 85-82, and win the ACC tournament title.

It was a much closer game than the 33-point beatdown that the Seminoles gave North Carolina on January 14th, but Florida State was helped to victory on Sunday afternoon by many of the same things that got them a win earlier in the year.

FSU beats Duke in ACC semis, 62-59

Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton said his team learned something when the Blue Devils mounted their inevitable charge to erase the deficit.

"I thought we grew up a little bit in that stretch when the game was in doubt," Hamilton said.

Florida State advanced to only the second ACC tournament championship game in the program's history by beating Duke 62-59 on Saturday. Michael Snaer scored 16 points, including a 3-pointer with 3:27 remaining that gave the Seminoles the lead for good.

Utah Jazz Jeremy Evans jumps over a man sitting in a chair as he competes in the slam dunk contest during the NBA All-Star weekend in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 25.

Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz wins NBA Slam Dunk Contest

In a departure from past dunk competitions, fans were given complete voting power and cast their ballots by text message after each of the four participants competed in three one-dunk rounds.

Evans dunked with a camera on his head, slammed two basketballs while jumping over a seated assistant and donned a Karl Malone jersey to dunk over mailman-dressed comedian Kevin Hart.

Evans said the Jazz didn't have any input in the Malone-themed idea.

"Not at all," he said. "I was just thanking the Jazz fans. You want to do something to get them in it. So I felt that was a good way. And Dwight Howard, he helped me big time. That was huge."

Florida State ends Duke's home winning streak at 45

The Associated Press reports: Michael Snaer acknowledged he never felt comfortable playing in one of college basketball's most hostile environments, from the rowdy fans perched on the sideline to the way Duke tried to pressure the Seminoles out of their offense.

One shot changed everything — and ended Duke's long reign on its famed home court.
