'Halo' illuminates top of reclaimed landfill

Two boxers train under the illumination of the Haslingden Halo Panopticon in Rawtenstall, England. The installation designed by John Kennedy of LandLab sits on a hill called Top o' Slate, a reclaimed landfill site in East Lancashire and has become a major landmark since opening in 2011.

This certainly creates an unusual sight and distinctive landmark for the area. Who would ever guess it was a reclaimed landfill site? It's design is definitely other worldly and makes use of space that would have otherwise been wasted.Well done, folks, well done!

Juan Manuel Marquez celebrates after he knocked out Manny Pacquiao in the 6th round of their welterweight fight on Dec. 8, at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.

AP reports: No need for Juan Manuel Marquez to impress the judges. No need for the referee to count to 10.

Marquez took care of all of his business Saturday night with a thunderous right hand that left Manny Pacquiao face first on the canvas with his remarkable career in question.

Unable to win a decision in their first three fights, Marquez won the old-fashioned way with a huge right hand that put Pacquiao down for the second time in the fight at 2:59 of the sixth round. Full story.

Olympic boxing judges under fire amid 'fix' claims

Reuters reports — Japan's bantamweight Satoshi Shimizu, trailing by seven points going into the last round against Magomed Abdulhamidov, knocked the Azerbaijani down six times, the first of which he struggled to get up from. The judges scored the round 10-10, handing Shimizu two extra points for a warning against Abdulhamidov, who propped himself up against the top rope as the referee raised his hand in victory.

The Japanese boxer's team leader Masamori Yamane accused the referee of trying to support Abdulhamidov by attempting to fix his headgear. After deliberating for over an hour, AIBA said that under its rules, the referee should have given the Azerbaijani fighter "at least" three standing counts which would have resulted in the contest being stopped. They, therefore, overturned the result, handing victory to Shimizu, who was staggered by the original decision hours earlier.  Continue reading the full story.

Manny Pacquiao, right, connects with a right to the head of Timothy Bradley in their WBO world welterweight title fight, June 9, 2012, in Las Vegas.

Timothy Bradley wins welterweight title fight against Manny Pacquiao in controversial split decision

    The Associated Press reports:

Pacquiao never put Bradley down, but hurt him in the early rounds and landed the harder and cleaner punches throughout the fight. Bradley fought well in spurts and tried desperately to take the fight to Pacquiao, and scored enough points with the judges to win the 147-pound title.

This loss was inevitable, Manny did not look good his last fight and I think he is a little tired. Personally I think he is fighting too much to soon and is being exploited.
