Big stars, little kids: Tots recreate Globes red carpet

Mini-Anne Hathaway looked as sleek as the star herself in this recreation.

    By Meena Hart Duerson, TODAY

Bigger is usually better when it comes to Hollywood productions, but for the Golden Globes, one photographer took a tinier approach.

New York City-based artist Tricia Messeroux turned the best red carpet looks of the night into an alternate universe dubbed "ToddleWood," by transforming a selection of children into mini-mes to mimic the event's A-listers.

In the adorable photos, the kids perfectly ape celebrities' style and poses, eerily echoing Anne Hathaway, George Clooney, Taylor Swift, Kerry Washington, Halle Berry and Lucy Liu.

    ToddleWood, Getty Images

"Brielle couldn't believe that she had the same exact dress that was on TV," Messeroux said of mini Lucy Liu.

To get the photos, Messeroux and her team had to work fast. On Sunday night as the awards show aired, the photographer worked with her designer Andrea Pitter to select the looks and create the patterns in the childrens' miniature measurements. They shopped for fabric and props on Monday, and shot the looks on Tuesday.

"I held a casting call for the Golden Globes red carpet the day before," Messeroux told TODAY.com. "These are regular kids who happen to like taking pictures."

    Toddlewood, Getty Images

"She knew exactly who Taylor Swift was and she studied her poses to be ready for the shoot," the photographer said of kid model Laney.

Though her models were all toddlers, Messeroux says they acted like red carpet-ready professionals, even when their outfits were uncomfortable or they didn't know who they were imitating.

The small version of "Scandal" star Kerry Washington had to actually dial back her enthusiasm to play her role. "Deysha loves to pose with her hands on her hip and strike a huge smile," said Messeroux. "However, the real Kerry Washington is more conservative. So it was a task to get Deysha to bring it down a few notches. But she nailed it."

"ToddleWood's mini-Anne Hathaway was a freshman in all this," she said. "This was her very first photo shoot ever. She did a great job even though the Anne Hathaway wig was itchy and the sequined dress was kind of itchy too. But she maintained herself and even asked to keep the dress!"

    Toddlewood, Getty Images

Mini-Halle Berry, otherwise known as Ariana from Long Island, had some idea of who her celeb twin was but "was more excited to know that she was chosen because she is as pretty as Halle Berry," Messeroux said.

    Others had to improvise.

"Mini-Stacy Keibler and mini-George Clooney met for the first time at the ToddleWood photo shoot," Messeroux revealed. "Dallas (Stacy) was about half a foot shorter than Brady (George) so she had to stand on a sandbag to give her that extra height."

    Toddlewood, Getty Images

The mini versions of George Clooney and Stacy Keibler got creative to hide their height differences.

Messeroux has mini-fied celebrities before, memorably making tiny versions of the TODAY anchors last year. "Being on the set was extremely exciting for me, my team, the kids and the moms," she said.

She admits the original inspiration for the images was close to home.

"I was looking for a photography project that would include my then-3-year-old daughter, Skylar," she said. "I was told that she looked like Diana Ross. So I figured, well, let's make her look like Diana Ross!"

Since then, the miniature celeb doppelgangers project has just kept going, and Messeroux says the reaction has been "incredible."

Some people take life way too seriously. So quick to judge. I dont see anything wrong with little actors portraying other actors. Sometimes its what the KIDS want not the parents. But keep being self righteous and happy with all you lives decisions perfect people...Hilarious

The new "Disney Dream Portrait," commissioned by Disney Parks for their ongoing celebrity advertising campaign which debuted in 2007, is one of two new images unveiled Aug. 1, 2012 by Disney Parks. The Leibovitz image, which will appear in several fall magazines, is entitled, "Where every moment leaves you hungry for more."

Rarely do we get a behind-the-scenes look at one of Annie Leibovitz's photo shoots. Even though these images were taken a few months ago, and have now been released for publicity purposes, I thought that other photographers might appreciate a peek at what it takes to pull off a big shoot with top celebrities.

Clashes outside court as Indonesian rock star is jailed over sex-tape scandal

    AFP - Getty Images

Indonesian rock star Nazril Ariel reacts to the verdict during his trial at Bandung court in West Java on Jan. 31. An Indonesian court jailed one of Southeast Asia's biggest rock stars for more than three years after sex tapes of him with two television celebrities appeared online.

Members of a Muslim group clash with supporters of Indonesian rock star Nazril Ariel following his trial at Bandung court in West Java on Jan. 31.

29-year-old singer Nazril "Ariel" Irham - who said the videos were stolen and posted online without his knowledge - was the first celebrity to be found guilty of violating the country's strict anti-pornography law that went into effect in 2008.

Presiding Judge Singgih Budi Prakoso said the star made the videos with two celebrity girlfriends and did nothing to prevent their wide distribution.

He sentenced him to 3½ years in jail — well short of the maximum 12, angering hundreds of protesters who gathered outside — and fined him $25,000.

Indonesia should pay a heavy price for this kind of injustice. Any country that is controlled by religion should be ostracized and prevented from involvement in the United Nations. Civilized societies must draw a line in the sand.
