Haynesworth was exonerated of two 1984 sexual assault convictions.

    The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports:

The Virginia Court of Appeals has granted a writ of actual innocence for Thomas E. Haynesworth, the Richmond man who served 27 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted in a series of rapes in the 1980s.

The vote in the court was split 6-4, with the majority issuing a two-line declaration and the minority issuing a multi-page dissension, said Olga Akselrod, a lawyer for the Innocence Project, which worked for Haynesworth's release from prison and his court rendered exoneration.

That's look of you've got to be kidding. Attorneys and judges sometimes forget almost no one except them want to be in that damn court room.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, head of the International Monetary Fund, waits to be arraigned Monday, May 16, 2011, in Manhattan Criminal Court for an alleged attack on a maid who went into his penthouse suite at a hotel near Times Square to clean it, in New York.

Bail denied to IMF chief in hotel sex assault case

msnbc.com staff and news service reports:

NEW YORK — A judge on Monday ordered the head of the International Monetary Fund to remain jailed at least until his next court hearing on charges he sexually assaulted a maid who went into his penthouse suite at a hotel near Times Square to clean it.

A tired and grim-looking IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn appeared before Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson to answer to charges that include attempted rape.

The judge granted prosecutors' request to hold Strauss-Kahn without bail and set the next court date for May 20. Continue reading.

The stuff nightmares and horror films are made of: Dredging a polluted pond for bodies in France

Frank Perry / AFP - Getty Images

A French gendarmerie unit specialized in hazardous materials incidents searches a polluted pond in Lavau-sur-Loire, western France, on Thursday, Feb. 10. The head, arms, and legs of a teenage girl were found in a pond earlier this month in the area. The magistrates' union called for courthouses across the country to go on strike until February 10 in protest, while two major police unions accused French president of using this murder to further his own right-wing political agenda. The main suspect in her murder, Tony Meilhon, 31, had been jailed several times for crimes including sexual offences, and was released in February last year after finishing his latest sentence.

Cornelius Dupree Jr., raises his hands in celebration with his lawyer Nina Morrison, left, and attorney Barry Scheck, right, in Dallas on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Dupree served 30 years for rape and robbery before being exonerated by DNA evidence.

Texan declared innocent after 30 years in prison

    By Jonathan Woods, msnbc.com

The AP reports: A Texas man declared innocent Tuesday after 30 years in prison could have cut short his prison stint twice and made parole — if only he would admit he was a sex offender.

But Cornelius Dupree Jr. refused to do so, doggedly maintaining his innocence in a 1979 rape and robbery, in the process serving more time for a crime he didn't commit than any other Texas inmate exonerated by DNA evidence.

"Whatever your truth is, you have to stick with it," Dupree, 51, said Tuesday, minutes after a Dallas judge overturned his conviction.

How can Mr. Dupree be smiling? He must be a better man than I am. If I were him, I think the 30 years behind bars for something I did not do would leave me a bitter man. I am happy for him and hope he can find it in it his heart to forgive those that caused his pain. God bless you, Mr. Dupree.
