Semi-tractor trailers lay in debris left by a tornado which passed through the southern area of Dallas.

msnbc.com reports, updated at 5:40 p.m. ET: At least two tornadoes touched down in areas south of Dallas on Tuesday, tossing tractor-trailers hundreds of feet into the air and causing widespread damage, especially in Lancaster and Arlington. No deaths were reported, but rescuers were still combing debris.

'Welcome Home' program for US troops comes to an end in Dallas

    Larry W. Smith / EPA

Troops exit the airport marking the last Rest and Recuperation (R&R) flight at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Wednesday. The Army is officially closing the DFW Personal Assistance Point hub to service members returning from over seas, traveling between the United States and Iraq and Afghanistan.

Troops exit the airport in Dallas, Texas.

    Larry W. Smith / EPA

Troops wait outside on the curb for their bus after exiting the airport.

Charles Hadlock of NBC News reports that volunteers have welcomed home soldiers in Dallas from each of the 2,700 chartered R&R flights since the very first one on Nov. 2, 2003:

Sgt. Hank Slaughter, 47, who returned from Kuwait earlier this month after serving in Iraq, smiled and shook hands with each of the 50 strangers who had come to greet his flight.

“This is great.  This is definitely more than I expected to see,” said Slaughter.

When Slaughter mentioned that he didn’t have a ride to his home, volunteer Pat Brown, 80, offered to take him.  “He’s from Fort Worth and I’m from Fort Worth, so I’m going to take him home,” Brown said, laughing.

Soldiers returning home for their two weeks of R&R will now be routed through the Atlanta airport, ending a nearly greeting program run by volunteers at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. NBC's Janet Shamlian reports.

I wish the people of ATL would pick up this tradition for returning troops but something tells me they won't. ATL isn't quite like TX.

Police honor man who led them to Lee Harvey Oswald

Johnny Calvin Brewer stands in front of the Texas Theatre, Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, in Dallas. Dallas Police Chief David Brown honored the man who led them to Lee Harvey Oswald's hiding place in the movie theater 48 years ago. Brewer was given a Citizen's Certificate of Merit. Police credit him with helping officers arrest Oswald after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963.

    AP reports:

DALLAS — Dallas police honored a man on Tuesday whose "keen observation skills and strong sense of civic duty" led them to Lee Harvey Oswald, who had crept into the back of a darkened movie theater to hide on Nov. 22, 1963, shortly after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Police Chief David Brown presented Johnny Calvin Brewer with the department's Citizen's Certificate of Merit and praised his selfless act and "exemplary conduct" 48 years ago during a ceremony at the Texas Theatre — the same place where Oswald was captured about 80 minutes after Kennedy was killed.

It's hard to believe that the half-time show started out with college marching bands as the performers considering today's spectacles. Where would you rank the Black Eyed Peas' performance among performances of the past? Check out Wikipedia's list of past shows here.

Thank GOd Usher and Slash showed up. Fergie butchered everything. She doesn't even qualify as a back up singer. I was embaraased for her and all them. Just shows to go how talentless the Black Eyed Peas are. The are studio artists, not true performing artists.
