The value of daylight-saving time has been disputed for generations. Proponents argue that it saves energy and promotes outdoor activities during summer evenings. Urban workers, retail shop owners and tourism businesses tend to favor DST.

Opponents say the actual energy savings are inconclusive and negligible due to modern energy consumption patterns. Many also argue that DST disrupts morning activities, and the complexities involved with changing clocks twice a year is socially and economically disruptive. Groups who dislike DST are evening entertainment businesses, farmers, transportation companies and organizations that work across multiple time zones.

This weekend marks the crossing of two fantastic things - the beautiful colors of autumn and the last day of Daylight Saving Time!

I've had the privilege to see vibrant autumn colors from the northwest and the southeastern United States this week and I don't think I'm alone in this being one of my favorite times of year to head outside. Perhaps sleeping a little later on Sunday morning will make things look even better for those of us who participate in turning our clocks back.
