I hope they're not going charge our military members any baggage fees on this one!

'Miracle on the Hudson' plane is museum-bound

    By Rich Shulman

I'm pleased to learn that the Flight 1549 plane will live on at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, N.C. It's a fascinating piece of aviation history. Click here for today's story and here for a January story on the museum's plans.

The US Airways jet, flight 1549, sits outside a warehouse Friday, May 20 at J. Supor and Sons in Harrison, N.J. The plane that splash-landed in the Hudson River in 2009, making a national hero of pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, is getting a final once-over before it makes its last journey. Sometime in the next two weeks the plane will be moved to an aviation museum in North Carolina, where it will be put on permanent display.

The moldy and damaged cockpit of the wreckage of US Airways flight 1549 is seen Saturday, March 19, at a storage facility in Kearny, N.J., as the plane is being prepared to be part of an exhibit after it is moved to an aviation museum in Charlotte, N.C.

Airline passengers wait to be rescued on the wings of a US Airways Airbus 320 jetliner that safely ditched in the frigid waters of the Hudson River in New York, after a flock of birds knocked out both its engines. The audio recordings of US Airways Flight 1549, released Thursday, Feb 5, 2009 by the Federal Aviation Administration, reflect the initial tension between tower controllers and the cockpit and then confusion about whether the passenger jet went into the river.
