Tiger Woods builds a big lead at Chevron World Challenge

    Danny Moloshok / AP

Tiger Woods hits his approach shot on the 18th hole during the second round of the Chevron World Challenge golf tournament on Friday.

    golfchannel.com reports:

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Tiger Woods knows he’s playing better than he has in the last two years, and he has the leaderboard to prove it.

Woods hit a half-dozen extraordinary shots Friday in the Chevron World Challenge on his way to a 5-under 67, giving him a three-shot lead over Matt Kuchar and K.J. Choi going into the weekend at Sherwood Country Club.

It was the second straight tournament that Woods had the 36-hole lead. Three weeks ago at the Australian Open, he was one shot ahead until a 75 in the third round. Woods wound up in third place at The Lakes, his best finish of the year.

With each round, it looks as though his best might not be too far behind.

Woods had two eagles, and nearly had a third with a flop shot from behind the 13th green that he was still talking about long after his round. Not even a double bogey on the par-3 15th hole when a gust knocked his ball into the water could keep him from a comfortable lead after two rounds.

“I want the lead after four days,” said Woods, winless in his last 26 official starts dating to the Australian Masters in November 2009. “Two days is nice, but four days is even better. I know I’m playing better, and it’s nice to see my position on the leaderboard equating to it.

“Two stroke-play events in a row I’ve played really well.” Read the full story.

The Americans now lead the Internationals 9-5 with three morning foursomes matches remaining and five fourballs in the afternoon.

Tiger Woods comes up short in Australia

    According to Golf Channel:

The only other time Woods has been featured on a leaderboard on Sunday this year was at the Masters, when he was tied for the lead at turn until going even par on the back nine and finishing four shots behind.

Woods has played only four tournaments since then because of injuries to his left leg.

“It’s been since Augusta, I had the lead at Augusta on Sunday, that’s the last time I’ve been in that spot,” Woods said. “It’s been a long time, unfortunately I haven’t played a lot of tournaments in between. But it was great to be out there, I had a chance. Unfortunately I didn’t post the number I wanted to post.”

Bush tees off with wounded veterans

    By Natalia Jimenez, NBC News

Former President George Bush hosted the Warrior Open golf tournament this past Sunday in Irving, Tex. The competition for wounded veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, gave Bush the opportunity to interact with soldiers. While Bush has had few public appearances since leaving office, showing his support of the U.S troops has been one of his priorities. In April, he hosted Warrior 100, a similar event where he biked 62 miles (100 kilometers) with injured servicemen.

    From AP:

"I was a little concerned that our veterans don't think that I still respect them and care for them a lot," Bush told the AP. He added later, "There's nothing as courageous in my judgment as someone who had a leg blown off in combat overcoming the difficulties."
