Chandra Bahadur Dangi, 72, who claims to be the world's shortest man standing at a height of 22 inches, walks along a passage at a hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal, Feb. 26. Dangi is scheduled to be verified as the world's shortest man by the Guinness World Records committee today in Kathmandu. If certified, Dangi will beat Junrey Balawing of Philippines, the current Guinness World Record holder who stands at a height of 23.5 inches.

Man from Nepal hopes to snatch title of world's shortest man

He has never worked outside the home or seen a doctor, and until Wednesday, he had never left his remote mountain village in western Nepal. So 72-year-old Chandra Bahadur Dangi only recently learned he might be the world's shortest man.

Dangi says he's only 22 inches (56 centimeters) tall — about the size of a toddler — and he's hoping to claim the title. Guinness World Records said in an email Wednesday that its officials would arrive in Nepal's capital Sunday to measure Dangi.

Saltwater crocodile 'Cassius' is pictured in Marineland Melanisia at Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia, on Sept. 15. Cassius was officially declared the 'World's Largest Crocodile in Captivity' by the Guinness Book of Records, measuring 5.48 metres and weighing close to a tonne.

Just who is the biggest crocodile of them all?

By David R Arnott, NBC News

Cassius, an Australian saltwater crocodile named after Cassius Clay, has been declared the largest crocodile in captivity by the Guinness Book of Records. Cassius measures an impressive 5.48 meters (17 feet 11.75 inches).

He may not reign for long, though. As we reported on PhotoBlog, Filipino villagers captured a 6.4 meter (21 foot) crocodile earlier this month. Guinness World Records spokesman Chris Sheedy admitted that Cassius' title was already under threat, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

"Until [the Filipino crocodile is] in acceptable captivity which is humane and professional, and until it has been properly measured, we can't accept it," Sheedy said.

    Cubans roll world's longest cigar

    Desmond Boylan / Reuters

The world's longest cigar that stretched 268 feet 4 inches, or most of the length of a football field, is seen in Havana May 3. Resting on tables, it sprawled through El Morro, an old Spanish fort overlooking Havana Bay, where Cuba is holding its annual International Tourism Fair. The cigar, once it is officially accepted by Guinness World Records in London, will eclipse the previous record cigar of 148 feet 9 inches, both rolled by Jose Castelar Cairo, better known as "Cueto".
