USA's Jason Richardson, left, looks at Cuba's Dayron Robles after the Men's 110m Hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. Robles finished first but was later disqualified for making contact with China's Liu Xiang. After Robles' disqualification, Richardson was awarded the gold.

Robles was later stripped of his gold medal pending an inquiry after barging past Liu to win the 110 metres hurdles final at the world championships on Monday. Richardson was installed as world champion with the Chinese handed silver pending the investigation into the race.

Reuters reports 'bittersweet' feelings by Jason Richardson who was awarded the gold after finishing second in the race behind Dayron Robles who was disqualified.

"The reaction is bittersweet, you never want to see someone as talented as Robles disqualified but there are rules we have to abide by," he said.

"I am disappointed to have won the gold medal on a technicality."

More on the race and the controversy.
