Triple Crown Hopefull I'll Have Another gallops with exercise rider Jonny Garcia up during a morning workout at Belmont Park on June 7, 2012 in Elmont, New York.

From Reuters: NEW YORK - Triple Crown hopeful I'll Have Another, the favorite for Saturday's $1 million Belmont Stakes, has been scratched from the race, his trainer said on Friday.

Trainer Doug O'Neill said the colt, who was bidding to become the first horse in 34 years to complete the Triple Crown, suffered a tendon injury.

"Maybe he just strained himself from training," O'Neill told the Dan Patrick Show on the eve of the race. "Just a freakish thing. I'm bummed we're not participating. Whoever wins will be a special horse." Continue reading this story on NBC Sports.com here.

What a good looking horse .... How cool to consider the horses health over money .... That's how everyone should act .... Great example of humanitarianism and common sense ....

I'll Have Another, left, with jockey Mario Gutierrez aboard passes Bodemeister and jockey Mike E. Smith to win the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Md., May 19.

I'll Have Another wins Preakness Stakes, sets sights on Belmont to try for Triple Crown

Two weeks ago, J. Paul Reddam's I'll Have Another ran down pacesetter Bodemeister to take the Kentucky Derby under the Twin Spires at Churchill Downs. On Saturday, I'll Have Another took on that pacesetting rival in the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes and gutted out a neck victory to take the second jewel of the Triple Crown at Pimlico.

The front-running Bodemeister took command straightaway and set more reasonable fractions of :23 3/5, :47 3/5, 1:11 3/5 and 1:36 3/5 this time around than what he did in the Derby. Jockey Mario Gutierrez settled I'll Have Another in behind and to the outside as Creative Cause kept pace with Bodemeister on the backstretch.

Bodemeister, Creative Cause and I'll Have Another swung around the turn in tandem, but the gray Creative Cause couldn't keep pace as his two rivals faced off yet again. Bodemeister held the advantage for much of the stretch run, but I'll Have Another kept inching closer and just got up in the shadow of the wire to finish 1 3/16 miles on the fast dirt in 1:55 4/5.

I'll Have Another wins 138th Kentucky Derby

    David J. Phillip / AP

Jockey Mario Gutierrez rides I'll Have Another to victory in the 138th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., May 5.

I'll Have Another caught Bodemeister down the stretch and pulled away in the final furlong on Saturday to win the Kentucky Derby.

Jockey Mario Gutierrez, riding in his first Derby, guided the 3-year-old colt ahead of Bob Baffert's Bodemeister and a late closing Dullahan to win on a fast track.
