    A development is seen on one of the islands of The World Islands project in Dubai Jan. 7. The World Islands is located approximately 2.5 miles off the coast of Jumeirah. The collection of man-made islands are shaped into the continents of the world, and will consist of 300 small private artificial islands divided into four categories - private homes, estate homes, dream resorts, and community islands, according to the development company Nakheel Properties Group.

    According to Luxatic.com., the first island is ready to receive guests. This after a report last year from The Telegraph that the islands were slowly sinking into the sea.

    This image released Nov. 3, shows green and brown stains at sea off the coast of the Spanish Canary Island of El Hierro. A series of quakes including one measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook Hierro island in Spain's Canaries, three weeks after a nearby undersea volcanic eruption. The 4.0-magnitude quake struck at 0755 GMT in the Atlantic about five kilometres (three miles) northwest of the town of Frontera, population 4,000, said a report by the National Geographical Institute.

    Officials on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean say the Piton de la Fournaise volcano has erupted.

    The volcano is located in the southeast of the island. Most of the main population centers, including the capital, Saint-Denis, are clustered on the other half of the island.

    Accoridng to the Associated Press, The Piton de la Fournaise is a very active volcano and it often spews fumes and lava.
