Brazilian Siamese twins Israel and Levi underwent a 10-hour surgery to successfully separate the 14-month-olds.

Siamese twins separated after being joined at the hip... literally

    AFP reports —

Brazil's conjoined twins Israel and Levi were separated successfully on Wednesday at Maternity Hospital of Goiania in a surgery that lasted nearly 10 hours, the twins' doctor told AFP.

The 14-month-old boys were joined at the hip and abdomen. They shared intestines, a bladder and genitalia, said pediatric surgeon Zacharias Calil, a specialist in separating conjoined twins.

"It was very difficult, very complicated but we managed (to separate them)," Dr Calil said. The brothers "came through the surgery well." Israel and Levi had four legs but their shared lower bodies made the surgery the second-most complicated for conjoined twins. Twins with shared skulls create the most complex separation surgeries.

They like gifts, but Santa... not so much

An all too familiar scene, parents bring their terrified, hysterical kids for their annual portrait session with Santa at their local department store. My own parents have certainly relished showing me the images of myself as a grumpy 3-year-old, unhappy to be on Santa's lap. It seems this is a phase every child goes through at one point.

I love Olivia's expression in the photo above. I think it really makes the picture.

A child eats food on a street in Beijing on Feb. 15. China said that inflation moderated slightly in January but remained stubbornly high at 4.9 percent, and analysts said that meant the government would likely take further steps to cool prices.

A South Korean elementary school student shouts as she lays in the mud while performing an exercise during a summer military camp for kids at the Cheongryong Self-denial Training Camp on Daebu Island in Ansan, southwest of Seoul, South Korea, Thursday, July 15, 2010. One-hundred fifty-six kids took part in the three-day camp to strengthen themselves mentally and physically.
