The Spix's Macaw is the only member of its genus that remains. Critically endangered, breeding programs are the only reason this species is still on earth.

According to the association, the Spix's macaw is the rarest parrot species in the world. The parrots vanished from the wild in 2000 and have been conserved in breeding programs.
