    The AP reports:

    Michelle Obama is in Botswana to begin the second leg of a weeklong goodwill visit to Africa.

    She is scheduled to help paint a mural at a clinic that treats more than 4,000 children infected with HIV/AIDS.

    Mrs. Obama will also eat lunch with women leaders from different generations and pay a courtesy call on President Ian Khama.

    In an address to British Parliament on Wednesday, President Barack Obama sought to counter critics who assert that U.S. and British influence in world affairs is waning as rising powers like China and India assert themselves.

    Obama toasts queen, special US-Britain bond

    AP reports:

    In lavish style, President Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday affirmed a bond between the United States and the United Kingdom that has strengthened through the sacrifice of war and a history of common values. As the queen put it, the relationship is "tried, tested and, yes, special."

    msnbc.com staff and news service reports: President Obama and his wife Michelle are in the UK for a state visit at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II, who is hosting them for two nights at Buckingham Palace.  They were welcomed to the palace this morning in an elaborate arrival ceremony, and will be toasted at an intimate banquet for about 200 royals and other dignitaries Tuesday evening.

    Royal watchers say the queen has taken a liking to the Obamas ever since meeting the couple during their 2009 visit to London.

    The White House has been meticulously trimmed with seasonal decorations for the holidays. This theme for this year's decorations is "Simple Gifts"

    Mrs. Obama settled on a theme of "Simple Gifts" for the holiday season, emphasizing the simple things that bring joy at Christmas. Many White House decorations also are made from basic — and, in some cases, reusable — materials such as wood, newspaper and magazine pages.

    Aaaarghy Matey, Pirate Island has a new Tiger. I think Barak's more comfortable here than his wife. I guess being President you are by definition a part of a Reality TV Show. Camera's and Microphones follow your every move, outside of The House. And he's a family guy, too.
