Workers clear tents and belongings of Occupy DC demonstrators from McPherson Square in Washington, Feb. 5. Police removed protesters as they confiscated bedding and most tents on Saturday from an "Occupy" protest site just blocks from the White House, enforcing a no-camping rule for the public McPherson Square they had ignored for months.

Authorities said 11 people have been arrested in Washington's McPherson Square since Park Police began clearing away tents from one of the nation's last remaining Occupy sites.

David Schlosser, who is a spokesman for the U.S. Park Police, said Sunday that one of those arrested was charged with felony assault on a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon. That person is accused of hitting an officer in the face with a brick Saturday evening. The officer was treated at a hospital.

Deadline looms for Occupy DC protesters

Occupy DC demonstrator Brian Eister of Colorado packs up his camping gear, in compliance with new restrictions, at McPherson Square in Washington Jan. 30. At noon today, the National Park Service will ban Occupy DC protesters from camping overnight here and in Freedom Plaza where have they been living since October, in a blow to one of the highest-profile chapters of the movement denouncing economic inequality.

Occupy protesters in the nation's capital were preparing for a noon Monday deadline set by federal park authorities to end camping at some of the movement's last remaining large encampments, with some "surprises" in store, one of the activists said.

Police arrest Occupy DC protesters after they refuse to dismantle structure

    Yuri Gripas / Reuters

Police officers stand around a structure built the night before by 'Occupy DC' protesters on McPherson Square in Washington, D.C., Dec. 4.

    From NBC Washington:

Police have made arrests after members of the "Occupy DC" protest group constructed a wooden structure without a permit in McPherson Square overnight.

Park Police and DC police initially gave protestors one hour to dismantle the structure, but their request was refused. A few protestors began scuffling with police, after which arrests were made. Officers on horseback were also seen pushing the crowd back.
A group of six protestors were seen on the roof of the 30-foot-high building while police kept the crowd back with caution tape and tore out pieces of wood from the bottom of the structure. 15 other protestors were seen inside the structure. More arrests were made after protestors attempted to break through the tape to aid the protestors on the roof.

Shortly after noon Sunday, the protest group reported that three arrests had been made, according to Tim Craig of The Washington Post. However, that number was likely to increase as the afternoon went on.

Police have closed the Vermont Avenue entrance to the McPherson Square Metro station. I Street between Vermont Avenue and 15th Street is also closed, as is the 900 block of 15th Street and the 800 block of Vermont Avenue.

    Updates from AP:

District of Columbia police say a car drove through a crowd near an Occupy DC protest and struck at least two people. Hundreds of protesters affiliated with Occupy DC shut down streets Friday near the city's convention center in downtown Washington.

Police say only one person went to the hospital, with injuries that were non-life-threatening. They said the victims were both conscious.

    WRC-TV reports:

Demonstrators protesting the Defending the American Dream summit at the Washington Convention Center spilled into the streets Friday night.

Occupy DC marched from McPherson Square to the convention center Friday evening.

The summit intends to send a message to Congress and President Barack Obama opposing growing federal government intrusion and debt. Confirmed speakers at the summit included radio host Mark Levin, Republican presidential candidates Herman Cain and Mitt Romney, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Fox News judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano was scheduled to speak at Friday night’s Tribute to Ronald Reagan dinner.

Occupy DC contends those gathering at the summit have too much influence in politics.
