Women gather and take pictures in front of boxes where men stand like toys on Sept. 11 in Paris, on the opening day of a store of the online dating site "AdopteUnMec.com" (AdoptAGuy.com), where women can choose and also date men according to their profiles and taste. This traveling store will open ten days in Paris, before going to Brussels, Lausanne, Toulouse and Lyon and then going back to Paris.

Looking for love in all the wrong places? You might want to hop offline and head over to Paris. The French dating site "Adopt-a-Guy" opened a physical story where ladies can find their Mr. Right. Go to AdopteUnMec.com (in French) to start shopping online if you can't make it to one of the stores. The store is open for 10 days in Paris, before it moves to Brussels, Lausanne, Toulouse and Lyon, according to News.com.au.

Where is the romance in this. Ok - it may be a gimmick but it's in very bad taste. The fact that it took place in what many would consider to be the romantic capital of Europe makes it even worse. In any case if this company had done its research it would have discovered that women are turned on by  …

Reuters reports — Francois Hollande became French president on Tuesday in an official handover ceremony that makes him the country's first Socialist leader since Francois Mitterrand.

Outgoing President Nicolas Sarkozy greeted Hollande on the steps of the Elysee presidential palace, and took him inside to transfer nuclear codes and other secret files ahead of a short swearing-in ceremony attended by around 400 guests.

Hollande was due to fly to Berlin later in the day for his first meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

French tourists have a picnic in the park as they sit in the sun in deck chairs in Hyde Park, London, on Friday. Temperatures in the capital are expected to rise to 20 celsius (68 fahrenheit) this weekend, far above the normal average for March.

People enjoy the sun at the Goerlitzer park on Friday in Berlin as the temperature reached 18 degrees celsius.

Spring is off to a warm start in 2012, but it remains to be seen how this year will compare to 2011. Last year, human activity kept global temperatures close to a record high according to the World Meteorological Organization in this Reuters story:

On average, global temperatures in 2011 were lower than the record level hit the previous year but were still 0.40 degrees Centigrade above the 1961-1990 average and the 11th highest on record, the report said.

WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud warned that the consequences of global warming could be permanent. "The world is warming because of human activities and this is resulting in far-reaching and potentially irreversible impact on our Earth, atmosphere and oceans," he said.

La Nina, a natural weather phenomenon linked to heavy rains and flooding in the Asia-Pacific and South America and drought in Africa, was one of the strongest in the past 60 years and stayed active in the tropical Pacific until May 2011.

Thousands of Parisians held a silent march through the streets of Paris to honor the three children and a rabbi who were shot dead by a gunman at Ozar Hatorah Hebrew school in Toulouse, France today.

President Nicolas Sarkozy said the bullets from one of the two guns used match those in earlier attacks that killed three French soldiers.

Some 120 investigators were working on a manhunt for the killer and had already identified the license plate of the motorbike used in today's attack, police sources said.

French media said that security was being tightened at all Jewish schools in the country.

Thousands of copies of the newspaper 'France-Soir' are dispersed on the pavement as workers throw others from upper floors of the paper's headquarters, on the Champs Elysees in Paris on Dec. 13, 2011.

A lament for newsprint: Staff protest as storied French newspaper ceases print edition

By David R Arnott, NBC News

Around 100 workers from the CGT trade union occupied the Paris headquarters of the newspaper France Soir on Tuesday, Agence France-Presse reported, carpeting the Champs Elysees with copies of the paper in protest against the impending termination of its print edition.

France Soir was launched in November 1944 by two underground resistance fighters, according to The Local, a news website. By the mid-1950s, its circulation had grown to 1.5 million, but a long decline has seen the figure fall as low as 60,000 in recent years.

The current owner, Russian Alexandre Pougatchev, plans to switch to an online-only version of the paper on December 15, resulting in the loss of 89 out of 116 jobs.

    Jean-Paul Gaultier directs his cast

    The AP reports from PARIS:

Backstage was front-and-center Saturday at Jean Paul Gaultier's spring-summer 2012 ready-to-wear show, where the models changed on-set and even the dressers took a lap on the catwalk.

It was a novel approach, but perhaps one that would be better suited to a public of fashion-hungry novices than a roomful of industry insiders for whom backstage holds little mystery or interest. Tack on the fact that the said roomful of fashion editors, stylists and journalists had to wait nearly an hour after the scheduled start time in a room that felt like an oversized oven and you have a recipe for disaster.

Thankfully, the clothes measured up to the genial French designer's habitual brilliance and were the saving grace of the plodding, overheated exercise. Continue reading.

The pleasures and frustrations of summer in Paris and London

By David R Arnott, NBC News

Situated just a couple of hundred miles apart, the great cities of Paris and London have long savored a rivalry built on their historic differences. One thing they share, though, is summer weather which might charitably be described as changeable.

On Thursday, gray skies and mediocre temperatures greeted the launch of two ventures conjured up with rather better conditions in mind. In Paris, the pleasures of the urban beach, and in London, the chance to mess about in boats on the roof of a famed Oxford Street department store. As a resident of London, I'm just hoping that there will be better days to come before the summer is out.

Selfridges is opening its roof to the public for only the second time since WWII to host the installation, which includes a boating lake with dyed water and bar.

Forecast for London, Thursday. Highs of 66 degrees Fahrenheit. 30% chance of rain.

Paris Plages, the yearly transformation of a section of the Seine river into a man-made beach, opened today for its 10th anniversary and will run from July 21 to August 21 with the aim of bringing the beach atmosphere to the French capital.

Forecast for Paris, Thursday. Highs of 69 degrees Fahrenheit. 60% chance of rain.
