    A queen's son meets a hobbit's friend

    The Prince of Wales met actors from the upcoming Hobbit movie, including Mark Hadlow who plays Dori the dwarf, during a visit to Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop in Wellington on Wednesday. Prince Charles is in New Zealand on the last leg of a Diamond Jubilee tour that has also taken in Papua New Guinea and Australia.

    "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", the latest film by Jackson, who also directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will premiere later this month in Wellington.

    Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall were on the Diamond Jubilee tour of Scandinavia when a soldier fainted during a wreath laying ceremony in Oslo, Norway.

    msnbc.com staff and news service reports: President Obama and his wife Michelle are in the UK for a state visit at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II, who is hosting them for two nights at Buckingham Palace.  They were welcomed to the palace this morning in an elaborate arrival ceremony, and will be toasted at an intimate banquet for about 200 royals and other dignitaries Tuesday evening.

    Royal watchers say the queen has taken a liking to the Obamas ever since meeting the couple during their 2009 visit to London.

    Protesters attack car containing Prince Charles

    I've never seen an image of Prince Charles and/or Camilla looking so shaken.  This must have been a terrifying experience.  You can read about the incident here, and see more images from the protests here.

Angry protesters in London have attacked a car containing Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. An Associated Press photographer saw demonstrators kick the car in Regent Street, in the heart of London's shopping district. The car then sped off. Charles' office, Clarence House, confirmed that "their royal highnesses' car was attacked by protesters on the way to their engagement at the London Palladium this evening, but their royal highnesses are unharmed."
