Thousands of people gather for an opposition party rally in Singapore. The ruling People's Action Party, with the son of Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew at the helm, is still expected to overwhelmingly win Saturday's parliamentary election and remain in power for at least the next decade. But more seats are being contested than ever before, by a new crop of well-educated opposition candidates.

Customized wetsuit helps balding penguin fit in with feathered friends

Roslan Rahman / AFP - Getty Images

A featherless Humboldt penguin (2nd right) in a wetsuit walks past king penguins in the enclosure at the Jurong Bird Park in Singapore on April 4. The 10-year-old penguin has been experiencing continued feather loss since 2010 and is being treated with customised wetsuits. The suit acts like a natural feather covering, providing warmth and insulation which also helps new feathers grow and prevents moulting.

I love penguins. I'm so glad they found a way to help the little guy. I wonder what is wrong with him, to make him go bald to begin with?

Performers rest on stilts near a row of portable lavatories before the dress rehearsal for the Chingay parade in Singapore Jan. 22. The word Chingay means "the art of masquerade" in Chinese Hokkien dialect. Chingay parade is an annual street and floats parade held during the Chinese new year period in Singapore.

And I thought getting out of a wetsuit at a triathlon to use the potty was tough.

They could just run a drain line down one of the legs and out the bottom with a spigot, or just let the fluid collect in the legs evenly. No.2 could be part of the performance..

The international airport said its passenger numbers have surged this year to a record high as a recovering global economy and two new casino resorts encouraged tourists to visit the city-state. Annual passengers surpassed 40 million on Wednesday for the first time, Changi airport said in a statement.

Singapore's torch bearer and sailor Darren Choy runs toward the Youth Olympics Cauldron during the opening ceremony to mark the start of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore on Saturday, Aug. 14.

    Surreal start

I am normally not a huge fan of pictures from ceremonies or performances since they are planned events and making a nice picture of a visually over-the-top show is sometimes like shooting fish in a barrel. That being said, this is still a pretty cool image.
