Heat beats Spurs in OT, 103-100, to force Game 7

    Eric Gay / AP

R.J. Cardenas runs past a screen displaying a broadcast of Game 6 of the NBA Finals basketball series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat, June 18, in San Antonio, Texas.

By Kurt Helin, ProBasketBallTalk on nbcsports.com

    That was a great game.

And Game 7 sets up to be something special.

For three quarters San Antonio’s execution was too much for Miami and the Spurs entered the fourth up 10 (75-65) and just 12 minutes away from a title. Tim Duncan had been a force, with countermoves spinning Chris Bosh around and Duncan had 30 points (and he finished with 17 boards on a monster night).

But the fourth quarter belonged to LeBron James — he had 16 points in the quarter, cranked up his defensive pressure, his teammates followed along and they forced overtime thanks to an amazing Ray Allen three pointer with 5 seconds left. Read the full story.

Rafael Nadal defeats David Ferrer in straight sets for record 8th French Open title

    Christophe Ena / AP

Spain's Rafael Nadal holds the trophy with seven inscriptions of his name after winning the French Open for the eighth time, defeating compatriot David Ferrer in three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-3, at Roland Garros stadium in Paris, France, June 9.

Spain's Rafael Nadal returns the ball to compatriot David Ferrer during the men's final.

    From NBCSports.com

The King of Clay reigns again.

Rafael Nadal won his eighth French Open with a straight-sets victory over David Ferrer on Sunday, giving him the record for the most wins at the event. Chris Evert was victorious seven times at Roland Garros.

Neither player appeared comfortable in the early going, but Ferrer won the first handful of games despite some misplays. Nadal quickly settled in, though, and took the first set 6-3. His momentum carried him to a 6-2 win in the second set. Nadal prevailed in the third set 6-3.

    ...

The match was beset by delays, both related to the weather and security. Two apparent protests disrupted the second set -- the first when spectators in the stands lit flares and chanted and the second when an intruder with a flare made it on the court. The masked, shirtless intruder was quickly apprehended by stadium security, though it appeared to affect both players and smoke lingered on the court for several minutes.

    Elise Amendola / AP

Fans react as Texas Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz leaps head-first over the wall trying to catch a homer by Boston Red Sox Mike Carp in the fifth inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass., June 4.

By Drew Silva, HardballTalk on NBCSports.com

The Red Sox racked up 17 runs while scoring in each of the first seven innings against the Rangers at Fenway on Tuesday and only had to add one more against position player David Murphy in the eighth to become the 14th team in major league history to score in every inning of a game.

Soggy start leaves French Open fans longing for cover

    Vincent Kessler / Reuters

Spectators protect themselves from rain as they wait for the start of the French Open women's singles match between Coco Vandeweghe of the U.S. and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan at Roland Garros in Paris on May 28, 2013.

    By The Associated Press

Rain delayed the start of play Tuesday at the French Open for more than two hours, creating a backlog of matches with the tournament still in the first round.

Last week, tournament officials said they would move ahead with plans to build a retractable roof over center court, despite a court ruling last month that put the project on hold. The roof would be completed in 2018 as part of a $440 renovation million project at Roland Garros. Read the full story.

World Rally Championship driver drives off 20-foot cliff, lands upside-down, walks away

Abu Dhabi Racing's Emirati driver Mohammed al-Sahlawi veers off a cliff during the first stage of the Jordan Rally, round three of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship, in Sweimeh near the Dead Sea on May 10, 2013. The drivers escaped unhurt.

    By The National
Two of Abu Dhabi Racing's drivers fell foul of the tough terrain on the opening day of Rally Jordan, with one falling 20 feet off a cliff while another was left dangling over the edge.

While Mohammed Al Sahlawi and his co-driver Allan Harryman got away with their close encounter as their Citroen DS3 R3 2WD car was pulled away from the edge by spectators and marshals, Majed Al Shamsi and his co-driver John Higgins were not as fortunate.

They slid off at the same point as Al Sahlawi, falling 20 feet and landing on its roof. Al Shamsi was taken to a clinic with his shoulder in a sling for a precautionary check-up, but his Irish co-driver John Higgins said: "We're both fine."

Higgins added: "We came to a loose sharp left with a big drop, and the back wheels went over the edge. The car just fell back over the edge and landed upside down." Continue reading

Auburn University employee Dinah Decker, center, wipes tears from eyes as she watches as city workers cut down the poisoned oak trees at Toomer's Corner at the entrance to Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., on April 23.

Auburn University removed the dying oaks at Toomer's Corner Tuesday morning, after they were poisoned by a rival fan shortly following the 2010 Iron Bowl. Harvey Updyke Jr. is serving a jail term after pleading guilty to spiking the oaks with a powerful herbicide, and experts say they can't be saved. Workers used chainsaws and heavy equipment to remove what's left of the once-lush hardwoods at Toomer's Corner. Auburn fans traditionally roll the trees with toilet paper after a big victory, and tens of thousands rolled the trees after the spring football game last Saturday.

    Luke Macgregor / Reuters

Runners observe a moment of silence before the start of the London Marathon in Greenwich, southeast London, on April 21.

London's is the first major international marathon since the double bomb attack near the finish line in Boston, which left three people dead and more than 170 injured, including many who are still hospitalized.

He's an old man. Perhaps by the time you are in your late 80's you will have directed the CIA, served as ambassador to China, VP and President. He used to parachute on his birthday. But of course you were undoubtedly aware of these things E. Reyes.
