The Gap opened its first store in China in Shanghai today, calling it a major step in an international expansion aimed at doubling the proportion of its revenue from outside the United States. The US retailer, which also operates the Banana Republic and Old Navy chains, is set to open two more stores in Beijing on November 13, another in Shanghai in coming weeks and one in Hong Kong in the third quarter of 2011.
