Derek Jeter #2 of the New York Yankees reacts after he injured his leg in the top of the 12th inning against the Detroit Tigers during Game One of the American League Championship Series at Yankee Stadium, Oct. 13 .

Jeter suffers season-ending injury in Yankees' 6-4 loss to Tigers

Derek Jeter suffered a fractured left ankle diving for a Jhonny Peralta grounder in the 12th inning of Saturday’s loss to the Tigers and will miss the rest of the postseason.

The Yankees were down 5-4 when Jeter ranged to his left in order to make a play. He grabbed the ball but tumbled down awkwardly and didn’t get up. In obvious pain, he was helped off the field without putting any weight on the leg.

-- Reported by Matthew Pouliot of HBT

Two police officers stand on the field during a rain delay of game one of the American League Division Series playoffs between the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers at Yankees Stadium in the Bronx, New York on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011.

Tigers-Yankees Game 1: Suspended by rain

From Craig Calcaterra / NBC Sports:

Ain’t this a daisy: Joe Torre just announced that Game 1 has been suspended. You can’t predict baseball. But you can predict weather. Makes you wonder why they didn’t do that here.

Because of the new postseason rules that were put into place after the soggy 2008 postseason, all playoff games are played to their completion, not started from scratch, even if it hadn’t reached the fifth inning.
