Israel has "no greater friend than the United States," President Barack Obama said Wednesday on his first state trip to the country.

During his visit, Obama is expected to discuss Iran's disputed nuclear program and the crisis in Syria, and will also meet Palestinian officials in the West Bank on Thursday, but little progress on the peace process is expected.

Standing alongside Israel’s President Shimon Peres following a private bilateral meeting, Obama said the two countries' joint efforts were important in securing peace for future generations. Read the full story.

Msnbc.com's John Schoen visited the sit-in, which he characterized as a messy, mostly disorganized movement that lacks a clear message -- a lot like the rest of the current American political discourse these days.

A gold-dispensing ATM machine is seen on its first day of operation at the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, Florida Dec. 17. The Gold to Go gold bullion vending machine was brought to the United States by PMX Gold LLC.

    Coin-op goldmine in Florida

    By James Cheng

Would you buy gold from a vending machine?

    From Business Insider:

Investors can now go over to the mall and get .999 Credit Suisse gold bullion bars, minted gold American eagle coins. Each machine carries 320 gold bars and coins and automatically monitors and updates gold prices.

PMX has a money back offer too. If within 10 days of the purchase you have a change of heart, you could return the gold bar or coin and with price fluctuations you stand to make a profit or a loss. So, choose your dates wisely.

I might be tempted, but I've lost lots of quarters in vending machines, so I'd be wary.

NM governor considers Billy the Kid pardon

    By James Cheng

    The AP reports:

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson says he's received a formal petition to pardon legendary gunslinger Billy the Kid, and will make a decision on it before he leaves office at the end of the year.

Richardson has set up a website and e-mail address where the public can weigh in on the issue.

He was a psychopathic murder. Why on earth would anyone with a brain consider pardoning him? He killed people and ruined lives of women and children who lost their husbands, fathers and loved ones. This has to be the stupidest thing I've heard all day.
