Hungarian Nazi war crime suspect Sandor Kepiro sits in a wheelchair at Budapest Municipal Court before the start of the third day of his trial on May 19.

War crimes suspect, 97, declared fit for trial

AFP reports: Budapest Municipal Court ruled on Thursday that Sandor Kepiro's trial could continue after physical and mental health checks showed the 97-year-old was fit, even if very frail. He stands accused of being directly responsible for the deaths of 36 Jews and Serbs during a raid by Hungarian forces in the Serbian town of Novi Sad in January 1942. The former Hungarian gendarmerie officer was formerly number one on the list of wanted Nazi criminals by the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

Legendary photojournalist Ruth Gruber recalls documenting the Holocaust

    By Elena Grothe

Almost 100 years old now, photojournalist Ruth Gruber has worn many hats throughout her extraordinary career. Writer, lecturer and once the youngest Ph.D in the world, Ruth took on a dangerous secret mission for the Roosevelt administration during the Nazi Germany period and photographed Holocaust refugees. A documentary of her life, 'Ahead of Time,' airs on Showtime this evening. See a selection of her images and check out Ann Curry's fascinating interview with Ruth, below.

A part of history well will never forget and should learn from. The picture of the in slaved people look much like those Africans brought over by boats to the new land we now call America. The other photo's of Japanese/Americans held in WRA camps in the US, while all justified by America.

The museum and its collections were damaged by Allied bombing during WWII. The eastern wing was severely damaged, and has only now been rebuilt to house the Wet Collection.

People gather around a SB2C Helldiver after it was recovered from 91 feet down and under about six feet of silt in a San Diego reservoir on Aug. 20, 2010. Salvage divers, working with the National Naval Aviation Museum, removed the rare World War II dive bomber that crashed after its engine failed during a training exercise on May 28, 1945.

    Diving for a dive bomber

"It wasn't a particularly good airplane," said Navy Capt. Ed Ellis of the Florida museum.

The aircraft had a tendency to crash. The first prototype crashed in February 1941. The second went down as it was pulling out of a dive.
